Warren County Farmers’ Fair and Balloon Festival

The 75th Warren County Farmers’ Fair in Phillipsburg, NJ, has concluded last Saturday. There were all kinds of fun-filled activities from tractor pull, demolition derby to corn eating contest.

But I admit that I was there mainly for the balloon festival.

This post also serves as my entry to the Weekly Photo Challenge: Growth, Jakesprinter’s Sunday Post: Splendid, as well as the new monthly challenge by Marianne, CBBH Photo Challenge: Looking Up. Now call me GREEDY!

Weekly Image Of Life: A Lifetime Of Memories

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

A lifetime of memories begins on this day.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is my first entry to island traveler’s Weekly Image Of Life. The theme for this week is ‘A Lifetime of Memories‘.
Mt Washington Auto Road: Not a Journey for the Faint of Heart
The highest mountain in the Northeast
The highest wind ever observed by man
The scariest road ever observed by me!
I also double this post as an entry to Jakesprinster’s Sunday Post: Road. (I know it’s already Tuesday :P)
Mt Washington Auto Road
Before you are about to enter the toll both of Mt. Washington Auto Road, the first thing you see is this warning sign.
ATTENTION
The Mt. Washington Auto Road is a steep, narrow, mountain road without guardrails. If you have a fear of heights, you may not appreciate this driving experience. Guided tours are available.
Thought it was just a regular warning sign. Perhaps a sneaky way to threaten us and use ‘fear’ to sell guided tours which are more expensive than tolls if driving ourselves. I don’t have a fear of heights, so no problem.
We paid the fees ($25 for the car and driver, plus $8 for each additional adult) and got an audio tour on CD and a bumper sticker saying “This Car Climbed Mount Washington”.
The Color Purple: Exotic Flowers, Royalty, Spirituality and Passion
Weekly Photo Challenge: Purple
The theme for this week’s WordPress Photo Challenge is ‘purple‘. Purple is a very rare color in nature. The first thing that came to my mind was lavender! But then again, I’ve never been to a lavender field in bloom. So I thought I would be desperate this time and not participate this week.
Then I went through my image collection and found not one but THREE images of purple flowers! Historically and psychologically, the color purple represents royalty, nobility and spirituality. As you can see below, these exotic flowers are truly royal, noble and spiritual…
Lotus is a sacred flower in Hinduism and Buddhism, symbolizing purity and enlightenment. Whereas the ancient Egyptians associated lotus with rebirth, the Sun and creation.
(Edit: Wait…I believe this image below is not a lotus but a water lily!?)
Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside
First of all, I have to offer my condolences to the victims of the Colorado theater massacre. My deepest sympathy go out to them and their families.
Inside the Cockpit
The theme for this week’s WordPress Photo Challenge is inside‘. I decided to post a couple of images ‘inside the cockpit’ as I find them interesting. Have you ever wondered what’s going on behind the cockpit when you fly? For a layman like me, I’m all CURIOUS.
Inside the cockpit of a Hawker
On the way to Fort Lauderdale, Florida
The pilot-in-command is none other than my better half. (Hope he doesn’t kill me for posting his picture. Lol.)
Inside the cockpit of a Maldivian Air Taxi seaplane, Twin Otter
On the way to Conrad Maldives Rangali Island
Note that the pilot uniform includes green shorts and bare feet! An island attitude. Continue reading
Weekly Photo Challenge: Movement
The Stars and Stripes Waving in the Wind @ Eielson Center, Denali National Park, Alaska
When I saw that the theme for this week’s challenge is movement, I felt ‘challenged’. I’m just a beginner photographer and have difficulties shooting ‘moving’ things. Fortunately, I found this picture and thought that it shows movement of the flag quite well. And so here it is!
(Read about my Denali trip here.)
Two monks argued about a flag waving in the wind.
One said, “It is the flag that moves.”
The other said, “It is the wind moving.”
Just then, the teacher appeared and said, “Not the flag; not the wind; it is the mind that moves.”
